KUNG FU VOCABULARY:

At Tyler Kung Fu & Fitness, we use some of the traditional Chinese terms in our vacabulary. To help you feel more comfortable your first day and help you understand what we may be refering to, these terms along with their english translations are listed below.

People:

  • Sigung: Your teacher's teacher
  • Sifu: Your teacher
  • Si-hing: Older Kung fu Brother (Male student who started before you)
  • Si-jai: Older Kung Fu Sister (Female student who started before you)
  • Si-dai: Younger Kung Fu Brother (Male student who started after you)
  • Si-mui: Younger Kung Fu Sister (Female student who started after you)

Numbers:

  • Yut: One
  • Ye: Two
  • Sum: Three
  • Say: Four
  • Um: Five
  • Low: Six
  • Chut: Seven
  • Baat: Eight
  • Gow: Nine
  • Sup: Ten
